Neighborhood Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial organization and the oldest credit union in the DFW metroplex, is sponsoring this year’s Cottonwood Art Festival’s Emerging Artists program in Richardson. This program recognizes the talent of young local artists in Richardson ISD and offers them the chance to participate in an international, award-winning fine arts festival.
This year, ten outstanding visual artists, from sophomores to seniors, were chosen to participate in the program from high schools across Richardson ISD. The artists had to submit multiple artwork samples, and statements about themselves and their art to be considered.
Through Neighborhood Credit Union’s sponsorship, the selected students were given the opportunity to participate in a month-long exhibit at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and will be able to sell their work at the Cottonwood Art Festival, May 4-5, alongside professional artists. The students also receive a first-class education from professional artists and professors in the Emerging Artists Workshop Series.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to sponsor the Cottonwood Art Festival’s Emerging Artist program this year and join the community in recognizing the talent of such bright, young artists,” said Kristi Brooks of Neighborhood Credit Union. “At Neighborhood Credit Union, we strive to make a difference in the communities we serve, so we are proud to support such an innovative program that creates opportunities for art students in the Richardson community to gain invaluable knowledge and experience in their artistic endeavors.”
As part of the program, a panel of artists also chose student winners to receive best in show, 2nd place, 3rd place, and honorable mention awards. Neighborhood Credit Union gifted those students with corresponding scholarship donations. The student winners included Luisa Lara – Best in Show, Erin Glasscock – 2nd Place, Kate Dawson – 3rd place, and Max Young and Sophia Hufstedler with honorable mentions.
